Scrapbook, 1863-1912, of correspondence from teaching colleagues at Albany Academy (N.Y.) and Rutgers College; invitation, contracts, correspondence, translations, passport, speeches from Imperial audiences and farewell dinner, and orders for purchasing educational materials from the Philadelphia Exposition (1876) during his service as Superintendent of Educational Affairs in Japan, 1873-1879. Also includes correspondence, drafts, and other papers related to his service as Secretary of the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York, 1880-1889. Lastly, includes materials related to his retirement, death, and the donation of his papers, museum artifacts, and the donation of his prortrait to SUNY in 1912, by his wife Martha.
